Pre-Analytic Procedures

Specimen collection, transport, processing, and staining techniques including principles and interpretation. 10–15% of exam.

Analytical Procedures (Bacteriology)

Culture methods, colony morphology, organism identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, resistance patterns (MRSA, VRE, ESBL, CRE), and BSL-3 pathogens. 45–55% of exam.

Other Microbiology Disciplines

Mycology, virology, parasitology, and mycobacteriology including disease states, specimen sources, and identification methods. 20–30% of exam.
