MLT (ASCP) Curriculum Overview

Blood Banking (Immunohematology)

ABO & Rh systems, antibody identification, compatibility testing, transfusion practices, donor screening, transfusion reactions, and quality control. 15–20% of exam.

Hematology

CBC interpretation, red and white cell morphology, anemia classification, platelet disorders, coagulation basics, and peripheral smear review. 15–20% of exam.

Clinical Chemistry

Metabolic panels, enzymes, glucose and lipid metabolism, electrolytes, acid-base balance, liver and renal function, and specimen handling. 20–25% of exam.

Microbiology

Specimen collection, culture techniques, identification of bacteria and fungi, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and infection control. 15–20% of exam.

Immunology & Serology

Immune system fundamentals, antigen-antibody reactions, autoimmune markers, infectious disease testing, and transplant basics. 10–15% of exam.

Urinalysis & Body Fluids

Urine analysis, microscopic sediment interpretation, CSF and body fluid analysis, and renal physiology.5-10% of exam.

Laboratory Operations

Quality control, safety, instrumentation basics, LIS, regulatory compliance, specimen management, and ethics. 10-15% of exam.
